Recipient Details and Waiting Periods in Crypto Transfers: Understanding Travel Rule Checks

Kripto transfer ve Travel Rule konulu temsili görsel

A crypto withdrawal may require the recipient’s name, platform details or wallet ownership information. It may also be held for further checks. Understanding the reason helps you complete the request correctly and identify a genuine dispute.

What is the Travel Rule intended to do?

Sending originator and beneficiary information with a transfer supports traceability. In Türkiye, MASAK requirements and the platform’s applicable SPK rules should be read together. Transfers between platforms, to personal wallets and to foreign platforms that cannot supply required information may involve different processes.

Does a waiting period explain every restriction?

No. Under tightened controls in Communiqué No. 29 and Article 24/A of the Measures Regulation, the transaction type, first-withdrawal status and applicable exceptions matter. A single waiting period should not be assumed for every transfer. Missing records, security checks, network delays and judicial measures are separate causes. Ask the institution in writing why your specific transaction is pending and what action is required.

Which records should you prepare?

Record the recipient name, destination platform or wallet type, correct network and address, amount, purpose and platform request reference. If wallet ownership verification is required, use only the official process. Never share a seed phrase or private key. Address verification is not a reason to trust a supposed support agent requesting a payment.

Correct the record instead of bypassing controls

Splitting transactions, using another person’s identity or declaring a false purpose can worsen the review. Ask how to correct an error and whether cancellation or return is possible. If you believe a delay is unjustified, examine the timeline, contract and correspondence together. A compliance check does not automatically excuse every platform delay.

How to organise your application file

Set out events chronologically and match each payment, instruction and reply to its record. Keep original files and capture screenshots with dates and URLs. Retain proof of delivery for written applications. If a statement changes, preserve the earlier version as well. Avoid publishing identity and account information on public channels.

Frequently asked question
